Yorgos Yatromanolakis was born (1986) in Zaros, Crete.

He lives and works between Athens and Crete. He studied Informatics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Photography at Stereosis School, and is currently attending the MA program Photography: Research and Methodology at the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts, University of West Attica. He is co-founder of artist-run space Zoetrope, in Athens and contributor editor of Phases Magazine.

His artistic practice unfolds around experimental photography techniques, analog printing processes, artists’ books and audiovisual installations.

He undertakes long-term photographic projects that he edits, combining storytelling, materials and design. He has previously published three books: Roadblock To Normality (2016), Not Provided (2016) and The Splitting Of The Chrysalis & The Slow Unfolding Of The Wings (2018).

Seven years after his last book, he returns with a highly anticipated new series: Farewell To The Night.

As with his acclaimed latest book, The Splitting Of The Chrysalis & The Slow Unfolding Of The Wing (2018), Farewell To The Night is a series inspired by the rites of passage that mark the transition from one phase of life to another, capturing the internal process of metamorphosis.

This time, as a young father and the journey that comes with it.

An existential journey, full of contradictions, inner struggles and constant change.

It reflects a new way of being, where responsibility coexists with anxiety, and where vulnerability is linked to tenderness and unconditional love.

This new photographic series places fatherhood in the present, in a fragile and uncertain world, and in a new emerging reality where the values and beliefs we once relied on seem to be crumbling. In this light, Farewell To The Night acts not only as an emotional topography of a father's inner world, but also as an imaginary safe space, a calm and protective place to which he and his child can cling.

We know almost nothing about the music artist Ethan Syann. It's a choice from the musician behind his sounds to stay anonymous and far away from the lights. We don't know if he's behind some other projects or monikers. The only thing we know is that we discovered his works over a decade ago, via Soundcloud. At that time, the quality of the works, the unpredictable range of sounds and atmospheres gave his own imprint to Ethan Syann and the reason to have him on board at a point. It was an obvious fact to put the light on his first and only tracks, recorded between 2013 and 2015.

Today, he seems to come back in the area, and started again to record recently for some future projects to come. Yorgos Yatromanolakis choose his works between some various musician propositions on our side, and it has been the perfect match for IIKKI.

This is his first release.
